Is Flower Mound, Texas a Good Place to Live?

Yes, for a lot of people. Flower Mound is a town of about 80,000 people between Grapevine Lake and Lewisville Lake, known for its trail system, parks and planned neighborhoods. It fits best if you’ll use those trails and parks, you’re fine driving, and your budget fits the zip code you want. If you need DART rail or a lower payment, Lewisville or Carrollton may fit better.

Where is Flower Mound, Texas?

Flower Mound is in Denton County, west of Lewisville and north of Grapevine and Southlake. Grapevine Lake runs along the town’s southern border, and Lewisville Lake is just a few minutes’ drive north.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates about 79,500 residents on roughly 42 square miles of land. It’s officially a town, not a city, and it has a more spread-out feel than Lewisville or Carrollton.

Where the name comes from

The town is named for The Flower Mound, a hill on Flower Mound Road that rises above the land around it. According to the town, the hill got its name in the 1840s because so many wildflowers grew on it. It’s a piece of the Blackland Prairie that early settlers used as a hay meadow and never plowed, and the nonprofit Mound Foundation has identified more than 175 kinds of wildflowers there.

Who Flower Mound tends to fit

In my experience, Flower Mound makes the most sense if:

  • You’ll use the trails, parks and the lakes.
  • You want planned neighborhoods with HOA amenities.
  • Lewisville ISD campuses like Flower Mound High School or Marcus High School are part of your plan.
  • You work along SH 121, I-35E or near DFW Airport, or you work from home.

It’s a weaker fit if you need DART rail or a payment closer to Lewisville or Carrollton.

Flower Mound’s two zip codes

  • 75028: The larger part of town, and often the more attainable band.
  • 75022: Often larger homes and lots, with higher prices.

Those two zips don’t share one price, and they can feed different schools. I start with the zip, then the HOA and the exact school assignment.

Getting around Flower Mound

Flower Mound is a driving town. FM 2499, FM 1171 and SH 121 carry most of the traffic, and I-35E is just east in Lewisville. The Census Bureau puts the average commute at about 26 minutes. There’s no DART rail in town. Carrollton is the closest city with DART stations.

Schools in Flower Mound

The town says it’s served by five school districts:

  • Lewisville ISD covers most of town. The district reports about 29.9 square miles of Flower Mound and more than 13,500 students from the town. Flower Mound High School and Marcus High School are both LISD campuses.
  • Argyle ISD serves parts of town.
  • Small edges can fall in other districts, such as Northwest ISD or Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.

With five districts in play, I always confirm the assigned campuses with the district for the exact address.

What homes cost in Flower Mound

As a rough 2026 planning range from my own market notes, townwide values often sit around the low-to-mid $600,000s. 75028 is frequently the more attainable band, often the high $400,000s to mid $500,000s and up, while 75022 runs higher, with many closings in the $700,000s to $900,000s.

Those are planning numbers, not a price for any one home. When you’re ready, I’ll pull recent sales for the streets you like. You can also search homes for sale in Flower Mound any time.

Thinking about selling your Flower Mound home?

A 75028 home and a 75022 home are priced against different buyers, so pricing has to start with the right comparable sales. Here’s how I help Flower Mound sellers.
